Villa facing the sea, adjacent to the Conservatoire du Littoral
The villa is located at the far east of the Bay of Saint-Malo, at the entrance to the Rothéneuf Harbor, also known as “The Swiss Lake” because of its geographic configuration which makes the cove a haven, sheltered from winds, sometimes strong in this region. (Oh really? Wind in Brittany?) The villa was built in 1928, at the initiative of the Husse family; you can see Odile Husse (CQFD), in a kitchen photo, posing in front of the house. This photo dates from 1996, the year in which we acquired and began renovating the villa which, at a distant time, was a family pension during vacation periods. The famous Rothéneuf Sculpted Rocks lie just below the house, but are easier to access via the no less famous Le Bénétin restaurant, neighboring the villa. Rothéneuf administratively is a district of Saint Malo, even though this small town has become a village in its own right. Indeed, originally populated by fishing families and market-gardener farmers, it became at the beginning of the last century a destination for seaside activity for many Rennes and Parisian families who developed tourism by building houses on the coast, initially, then in the nearby hinterland. The coast, which you see in the photos placed in your kitchen, was virgin, and no one saw the point of exposing themselves to the North Wind! Very quickly, the elegant ladies came to enjoy sea baths, fish for the sand lance, or admire their children, husbands, and friends of the latter racing with skill, or not. The expansion of Rothéneuf accelerated during the fifties with the development of tourism in general, and nautical activities in particular. Rothéneuf, a privileged place, now offers all essential groceries, a pharmacy, two doctors, two hairdressers (a preference for Easy Coiff and Aurore at the top of the village), a renowned chocolatier Céline Perré, but also the Robino bakery where the “unlucky ones far away” come to buy bread and pastries from several kilometers away... Also, be early! Behind the Ruellan Traiteur sign hides a butcher shop, a quality grocer, and a very high-quality catering service! Villa Esprit de Famille houses a charming decoration shop. The Rothéneuf cellar located at the top of the square also offers a selection of high-quality wines. The creperie La Marie Cécile, Le Rocher under the aegis of Romain ROULLIER, and of course Le Bénétin will welcome you according to your mood. La Bar Tabac is the meeting point and offers national and foreign press. Anne runs Le Rothéneuf like a virtuoso, surrounded by her highly qualified team. Three beaches border the village, one of which, Le Havre, always offers an annexed nautical club of the famous Société Nautique de la Baie de Saint Malo, organizer of many prestigious offshore races including the world-renowned Route du Rhum, which returns every four years and whose start passes “at the end of the garden.” Caters, paddle, rowers, Optimist, but also dinghies are for rent. Three golf courses within 25 km, an international equestrian center in Dinard at 18 km, a high-quality equestrian center at 3 km, La Cravache de Saint Coulomb, the corsair city of Vauban at 6 km, the quay and its Marine Spas less than ten minutes, the Phytomer SPA in 5 minutes, the departmental tourist road that takes you along the coast to Cancale which needs no introduction (15 km). The Bay of Saint Malo offers from Lancieux to Cancale, passing through Saint Lunaire, Dinard and the Sillon of the Saint Malo quay, a fantastic panorama of landscapes and a variety of activities for a stay of ever-renewing discoveries. The TGV station is less than fifteen minutes away, and Paris is 2 hours 17 minutes by direct TGV. 2h15. Tips and tricks for a rich and light stay: When you arrive at the entrance of the small private path that leads to the house, drive slowly, as there is a right of way for access to the coast. Park either in front of the white gate, or to the left of the gate, leaving a passage for two pedestrians side by side. You can then open the gate and park your vehicle(s) to the left of the villa, after the wooden square area intended for the clothesline. Two parking spaces available, thus providing full security for your belongings. A remote will be provided to open the automatic gate On the south side, the ground is covered with Norman pebbles, laid before a northern pine terrace that surrounds the entire house. Beware grease stains and high-heeled shoes! The front door faces you, a small key and you’re home! Your host will then provide further instructions and usage tips. The WiFi block is next to the section “SON”; check the side rectangular button to ensure the box is on. Heating, if needed, is adjusted with the thermostat placed in the dining room. Move the slider to plus or minus, then OK. An important point, both for double glazing and for the bays on the upper floors, never leave two windows open simultaneously to avoid drafts. Access to the north terrace is from the kitchen, after opening the double glazing. The doormats are new; no worry if they rub a bit. The kitchen and the back kitchen feature all modern equipment, complemented by many tools such as a slicer, a robot (food processor), electric knives, etc. How does the dishwasher work? 1: On 2: Program (most often with time modulation button) then START! A mini-stereo is integrated into the shelf, with radio, CD player, and even cassette for the nostalgic... or for the tech-savvy! Beware of cooking fumes! A hood is essential as the detector is sensitive; safety first! Glasses, goblets, wine glasses, etc. are in the dining room in the cabinet on the right when facing away from the kitchen. Plates in the cabinet on the left. Cutlery and plates also in a small cabinet in the kitchen under the coffee maker. Dishes and kitchen utensils in the back kitchen. The fridge in the kitchen is yours, the freezer and the other fridge in the back kitchen belong to the gracious hosts! Thank you.
A TV is above the refrigerator; the TNT channels are at your disposal, but you will see that the sea’s spectacle makes the screen look even plainer.
