Lockkeeper's house on the canal in Brittany
Napoleonic-era lockkeeper's house located on the Ille-et-Rance Canal, directly on the towpath, between Rennes and Saint-Malo. (It is 25 km from Rennes via the four-lane highway). The site is exceptional because we are precisely on the 11 locks of Hédé-Bazouges: 11 locks lie in sequence over 1.8 km, producing a panoramic view along a cascade of locks, very close to one another. La Petite Madeleine is a stone house that remains in its original condition, featuring a living room on the ground floor with an adjoining kitchen, 3 bedrooms upstairs with a bathroom. View of the canal, of the boats, a green setting with remarkable trees several centuries old, a riverine atmosphere with the (discreet) sound of the lock, with occasional passages of boats at the lock just in front of the house. Depending on availability there is also the possibility of photoshoots on one of the three boats moored in front of the house, which are rented in low and high season as unusual accommodations. The house has a courtyard and a garden at the rear, with a vintage caravan and a very small charming glass conservatory. It also has a wooden terrace with a view of the canal at the front, since the house acts as a guinguette/bar in high season. A place frequented in the summer by many cycle tourists. The interior is furnished in a 'retro' style.
